Hand-woven linen · since 1998
Verpstė is a two-bench weaving studio off the Vilnelė river. We spin and weave Lithuanian flax into cloth that is meant to be washed, used and handed on — towels, table linen and by-the-metre fabric, each piece off the loom by hand.
See the clothWhat we make
Runners, napkins and cloths in natural, stone and warm grey. Hemmed by hand, softer with every wash.
Waffle and plain-weave towels in half-bleached and undyed flax. Hard-wearing, quick to dry.
Plain and twill weaves on a 70 cm loom, for people who sew their own. Sampled before you commit.
Why linen
Flax has been grown and retted across the Lithuanian countryside for centuries. It asks little of the soil, keeps you cool in summer and warm in the cold, and only grows softer and more lustrous the longer it is lived with.
We work undyed and naturally dyed yarn, in short runs. Nothing is printed, nothing is treated to feel soft on the shelf — the softness comes from the weave and from use.
